Contact dermatitis is a skin condition characterized by inflammation of the skin that occurs when it comes into contact with certain substances. This condition can result from exposure to irritants or allergens.
You can return to the Mats upon starting treatment.
If you develop any pain, swelling, pustules (whiteheads), or oozing/weeping, then withdraw from mat-based activities immediately and return for an immediate followup visit or visit your physician in person. If symptoms become worrisome or severe then visit the emergency room. If you develop swelling of the lips, mouth, eyes, hands, or genitals, then report to the emergency room immediately.
Contact dermatitis is not contagious – rather it is an allergy to something you are coming in contact with. HOWEVER, we recommend that when you are on the Mats and in contact with others that you keep the rash covered with a gauze wrap, Coban wrap, or ace wrap until it resolves. Be mindful of chemicals, hand sanitizers, wipes, cleaning materials, airborne scents, soaps, and detergeants you are using. We recommend a chemical holiday (taking a break from all manufacturd chemicals and only using water to clean) for a short period of time.
Prescription Treatment.
Instructions for usage will be on the bottle. Typically topical corticosteroids are used twice daily for up to two weeks in the area of involvement.
If used for inappropriately prolonged periods of time, corticosteroids can lead to permanent thinning of the skin, visible blood vessels, and stretch marks.
Your physician may have prescribed you another medication that isn’t on this page. You can search our site for the prescribed medication in the search bar. Please use the medication as directed – your physician may likely be treating a secondary symptom of your rash.
After 1-2 weeks of treatment, follow the link in your email to submit a followup visit for review by your doctor. If you have any questions about your treatment you can email our medical team and reach your physician at [email protected]
